Dorothy Buchanon

Bloomington - Dorothy J. Buchanon, 87, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:05 PM on Monday August 27, 2018 at her residence in Bloomington.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 7, 2018 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington with Rev. David Wayne Brown officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Dorothy was born on January 24, 1931 in Greenfield, Tennessee, a daughter to Roosevelt and Cora Anderson Miller. She married James Buchanon in Chicago in 1951. He preceded her in death in 2010.
Surviving are her children, Rose (Manuel) Buchanon, Bloomington, Carolyn Buchanon, Bloomington, Michael (Florence) Buchanon, Normal; nephews, Tivis Brown, Plano, William (Felicia) Brown, Rockford, Donald Hazzard Sr., Bloomington; grandchildren, Ebony, Jasmine, Courtney, LaShantae, Donald Jr., Brandi, Amari; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and 3 sisters, Rosella Jones, Alline Butler, and Gladys Meihs.
Dorothy attended Harold Washington College in Chicago studying accounting. She retired from the Social Security Administration.
She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington. In the past she attended and taught Sunday school at Bethsaida Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. Dorothy was also an Instructor at Chicago Baptist Institute.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
