Evelyn Handshy

Bloomington - Evelyn M. Handshy, 86, of Bloomington passed away at 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.

A private burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, in Springfield, IL.

Evelyn was born in Bloomington on August 12, 1929, a daughter of Merle and Lucylle (Devereux) Hutchison. She married William F. Handshy on November 18, 1961 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Jack Hutchison, and a sister, Mary Jane Hutchison.

She is survived by her niece, Ann (Mark) Hutson, of Bloomington; her nephew, Jeffrey (Debbie) Hutchison, of Novato, CA; and her sister-in-law, Peggy Hutchison of Bloomington.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Myerling Home for their great care.

Evelyn was a member of many organizations including, Ansarette's Daughters of the Nile (ABEBA Temple #42), Flower City Chapter of Eastern Star #152, and Amaranth #8. She spent 24 years working for the state of Illinois as payroll clerk.

Memorials may be made out to the Flower City Chapter of Eastern Star #152 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
