Bloomington - Frances J. Bernal, 80, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:44 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Her Mass of Catholic Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington and visitation one hour prior to mass at the church. Fr. Greg Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with the Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m.
Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Frances Bernal's Honor.
Frances was born on October 31, 1937 in Jacksonville, Illinois, a daughter to Henry and Pauline M. Smith Berst. She married Antonio Ramirez and later married Moises Bernal.
Surviving are her children, Tony J., Jr. (Lisa) Ramirez of Bloomington, Angela (Rudy) Rech of Lexington, Rick (Rose) Ramirez of Bloomington, Rudy L. (Laura) Ramirez of Normal, Guadalupe (Yvette) Diaz of Bloomington and Nicolasa Bernal of Bloomington; grandchildren, Samantha Rech, Jennifer Ramirez, Tim Ramirez, Tiffany Ramirez, Scott Ramirez, Luci Ramirez, Angelo Bernal and Kirsten Diaz; step grandson, Chris Betton-Diaz and two great grandchildren; sister Joana Lopez of Chicago, niece Justina Lopez, nephew Carlos Lopez, and two great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Moises Bernal; daughter, Anna Marie Ramirez and sister, Caralena Alvarado.
Frances was a graduate of Bloomington High School, class of 1955. She worked at Woolworth's Diner as a waitress. She later worked in food service for Illinois State University. Frances later moved to Chicago and returned to Bloomington in 1987 where she raised her children and later helped raised her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington and love cooking for her family, her game shows, soap operas, and other shows her grandchildren share with her. She loved her family so much and spending time with all of them.
