Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastors Thomas Wirsing and Chuck Bahn co-officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington and will be held an hour to funeral services at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.  Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Jayne was born on November 21, 1931 in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Elden and Alice (Hill) Casebeer.  She married Ray Lartz, Jr. on Christmas Day 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Surviving are her son, Casey (Maribeth) Lartz, Bloomington, IL; daughter, Cindy (Cary) Charlson of Woodbury, MN and Cape Coral, FL; 6 grandchildren: Casey (Kristin) Charlson, Colin (Christine) Charlson, Chauncey (Carly) Charlson, Caitlin (Ryan) Drake, Caroline (Korey) Stewart-Glaze, Mary Claire (Garrett) Gintoli; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Jayne attended Normal Central Grade School and graduated from Normal Community High School. She graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Home Economics.

She taught Home Economics at Decatur Senior High School, Decatur, IL, Webster Groves High School, Webster Groves, MO, and substituted in homemaking classes in Unit 5 schools while raising her family.

Jayne worked in her father’s grocery store, Casey’s Market Basket, before becoming an owner with her husband in 1973 of Casey’s Garden Shop at 1505 North Main St. in Bloomington.  She introduced gifts, home décor and Christmas product lines and blended them into the traditional garden center offerings of plants, seeds and fertilizers to create a unique shopping experience.

She was active at Trinity Lutheran Church serving on the Altar Guild.  She was a member of an antique study group through the McLean County Home Extension and enjoyed meetings of the Home Economist Educators Association.

In later years, instead of cooking one of her sumptuous signature meals, Jayne and her husband Ray were regulars at local restaurants. With her outgoing personality and warm smile, they made fast friends with staff and other patrons.

Jayne’s greatest joy was being with her family.
