Betty Martens

Bloomington - Betty E. Martens, 82, of Bloomington passed away at 4:34 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastor Thomas Wirsing officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Dale Twp. Fire and Rescue. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Betty was born on October 21, 1934 in Danvers Township, Illinois, a daughter to Edward and Mildred Hanck Payne. She married Merle V. Martens on January 25, 1975 in Bloomington. He survives.

Survivors include, her children, Sharon Thompson of Bloomington, Susan (Jim) Johnson of Minier, Sandra Owens of Bloomington, Vicki (Alan) Graff of Columbus, WI, Kathy (Steve) Rients of Pontiac and Mark (Sharon) Martens of Heyworth; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and brother, David (Patty) Payne of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald and Robert.

Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bloomington where she served on the Dorcas Circle and funeral luncheon committee. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She retired from Country Financial in 1996.
