Bloomington - Bruce W. Kolbus, 63, of Bloomington, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home.
He was born to Howard and Ruth Kolbus on July 2, 1953 in Oak Park, Illinois. As a special needs child he was cared for lovingly by his parents until their passing. Bruce attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Bloomington and graduated from Normal Community High School in 1972, did some course work at Illinois State University, and then worked at The Eureka Company for many years until their plant relocation. He then did additional course work at Heartland Community College. In his mother's 2014 obituary it was noted she raised four rambunctious boys. Bruce was definitely one of them.
Bruce is survived by his three brothers, Gregg (Carol) Kolbus, Duane (Rhoda) Kolbus and Brian (Jennifer) Kolbus; and 6 nieces and nephews.
Bruce enjoyed needlepoint and had a love for all types of books. He was an information-o-holic and was always ready to share that information with friends and acquaintances with enthusiasm!
The family would like to thank all of the folks at Bickford House for making his apartment his home. Also thanks to his close friends at the Town of Normal and the old neighbors on Hedgewood Drive that accepted Bruce with open arms.
Bruce's funeral will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastor Billy Newell officiating, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
