Normal - David L. Leonhard, 71, of Normal passed away at 9:56 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
Cremation rites have been accorded. No service is planned. His private interment will be at a later date. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

David was born on August 3, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois, a son to Lewis E. "Ed" and Gwendolyn M. Beynon Leonhard. He married Margaret L. "Peggy" Omar on June 9, 1968 in Flora. He later married Amy Armstrong on September 21, 1985 in El Paso. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five much loved cat companions, Snowy, Tonya, Jessica, Zack and Pierre.
David graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in Decatur in 1962. He attended Millikin University in Decatur. He graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1967 and a Master of Business Administration in 1989.
He taught Social Science at Tinley Park High School for one year and Normal Community High School for five years. David was employed by Illinois State University for over 30 years, retiring in 2005 as Senior Assistant Registrar for the Office of the University Registrar.
David was a past member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the College and University Computer Users Association. He was a conservative Republican.
In retirement, David enjoyed traveling, shopping, art fairs and craft festivals, visiting wineries, coffee at Barnes and Noble with "The Guys", dinner on Friday at Beningo's, breakfast on Saturday at Busy Corner and bell ringing for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign each November and December.
