Bloomington - Dean J. Eckhardt, 55, of Bloomington, passed away unexpectedly at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Bishop Larry Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the memorial home.
Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to American Heart Association.
Dean was born on October 24, 1961 in Bloomington, a son to Charles and Rosemary Britton Eckhardt. He married Pam Reeser on September 6, 1980 in Bloomington.
Surviving is his wife, Pam Eckhardt of Bloomington; two sons, David Eckhardt and Michael Eckhardt, both of Bloomington; mother, Rosemary Rose of McLean; sister, Diana (Duane) Stappenbeck of McLean and two nephews, David Stappenbeck and Darin Stappenbeck, both of Bloomington and a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Eckhardt; stepfather, Ralph Rose; brother, David Eckhardt and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Dean graduated from Olympia High School in Stanford in 1979. He worked as a General Contractor/Owner of Eckhardt Builders since 1982. Recently he was a Superintendent for Stueve Construction in Algona, Iowa.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. Dean enjoyed sports and was an avid Cardinals and Dolphins fan. He also liked cooking, especially smoking on the grill and smoker. He enjoyed traveling, vacations to Barbados and touring rum factories.
The family would like to thank the police and emergency staff of Algona, Iowa and Stueve Construction for their compassion and support.
