Dorothy Eloise Singley, 98, of Normal, passed away at 7:31 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Heritage Manor in Normal.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal with Pastors Jonathan Huehn and Timothy Fitzner officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Interment will be at Minier Cemetery in Minier. Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church, Normal, the Illinois Farm Bureau, or Transitions Hospice.
Dorothy was born November 25, 1921 in Auburn to John and Wilhelmina ‘Minnie' Stuckemeyer Renken. She married Lloyd Singley on February 16, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2009.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Phil) Laesch of Loyal, WI and a son, Gerald D. (Linda) Singley of Minier. Dorothy is also survived by six grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Schroer of Brownstown, IN, Daniel (Kari) Laesch of Hammond, WI, Darren (Rebecca) Laesch of Shevlin, MN, Jaci Singley of Bloomington, Randi (Luke) Krehbiel of Hopedale, and Jacob (Jennifer) Singley of Normal. She was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Dorothy is further survived by a brother, John Herman (Florence) Renken of High Point, NC, and a sister, Irma (Jim) Speeks of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; a sister, Verna Hallstein; two brothers, Carl and Leonard Renken, a sister-in-law, Harriet Renken, and a great-great-granddaughter.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of Dry Grove Unit of the McLean County Home Extension. She held numerous offices in Home extension on local and county levels. Dorothy was also an active member of her church, Christ Lutheran Church in Normal. She was a member and officer in the Altar Guild and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lydia Circle. Dorothy taught Sunday school for many years and also served as chairman of Vacation Bible School for several years.
Dorothy was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
