Bloomington - Dr. Sharon I. Schnittker, MD, 73, of Bloomington passed away at 8:52 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center.
Private family services will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be directed to the family for an educational fund for Chelsea and Alyssa Dryer. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dr. Sharon was born on November 17, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter to William and Edna DeBolt Schnittker. Surviving is her sister, Mary Munson (Thom DelForge) of Normal; two nieces, Molly Munson-Dryer of Normal and Peggy Munson of Massachusetts; two great nieces, Alyssa Dryer and Chelsea Dryer; and a special friend, Michael Head.
She was preceded in death by her parents; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dr. Sharon attended Gibson City schools graduating with high honors. She then graduated from University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, then received her MD from University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago.
Dr. Sharon was a highly respected board certified forensic pathologist, serving as a former deputy medical examiner for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiners office, later returning to Bloomington she served as a Illinois Coroners Physician working for the McLean County Coroners office and also serving numerous Illinois County Coroners offices with her expertise in the field of death investigation.
