E. Michael "Mike" Walsh, 81, of Bloomington, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Heritage Health El Paso.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Interment will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Bloomington. Mike was a man of love and service. In lieu of visitation, please preform an act of service in his memory. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements. It is recommended that those in attendance please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Home Sweet Home Ministries, The Salvation Army, or Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Bloomington.
Mike was born on December 13, 1938 in Bloomington, a son to Edward Martin and Nora Alice Godby Walsh. He married Florence ‘Flo' Hoeniges on May 30, 1959 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Bloomington.
Surviving is his loving wife of 61 years, Florence; children, Michael Andrew (Jill), Martin Edward (Beth), Michele Eileen (Randy) Tennis, Matthew Eugene (Mary), and Miles Stephen (Barbara). Mike was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and a great grandson.
Mike graduated from Holy Trinity High School with the class of 1957. He played football at Illinois State University. Mike was a Bloomington Firefighter for over 30 years, retiring in 1996 with rank of Captain. He was also a freelance carpenter for many years. Mike was a member at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Bloomington since 1959 and was involved in church activities.
Mike will be remembered as a family man with a strong work ethic. He was well liked by many and known for his humor and wit. Mike will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
