Normal - Elsa Louise Briggs, 82, of Normal passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her home.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Rev. Susan Ryder officiating. Visitation will from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the memorial home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Cancer Care. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elsa was born on March 4, 1936 in Decatur, Illinois, a daughter to George Frederick and Frieda E. Latal Johner. She married Terry Briggs in 1986.
Surviving is her husband, Terry Briggs of Normal; sister in-law, Arlene Johner of Chicago; nieces, Kris Kause and Ingrid Ferguson, both of Chicago; nephews, Randy Johner of Decatur, Mark Johner of Warrensburg and Eric Johner of Los Angeles, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl Johner and George Johner; and a sister, Katherine Osborne.
Elsa graduated from Millikin University in Decatur BA in sacred music. She worked in Decatur for many years in various positions, later opening her own travel agency, The Travel Shoppe in Decatur.
After Elsa and Terry married, they lived in Wyomissing, PA and Gilbertsville, PA, and later, Evergreen, CO in the mountains, west of Denver, where they lived for 23 years. During this time Elsa directed church choirs in Evergreen. Upon retirement, they moved to Normal in late 2012.
