"Every bird song, wind song, and
tremendous storm song of the rocks
in the heart of the mountain is our song,
our very own, and sings of our love."
Emily was fast friends with numerous opinionated felines of upright character; loved horses and dogs, gardening, the grandeur of nature, fine wine and food, convivial company, poetry, classical music, and harmonious elegant design in all things.
"Beauty crowds me till I die
Beauty mercy have on me
But if I expire today
Let it be in sight of thee."
Emily lived with élan, supporting the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony, numerous artists and designers, and theater companies.
She traveled widely, venturing as far as the Galapagos Islands, but finding particular ease in the southwestern U.S.
"Help us to be the always hopeful
Gardeners of the spirit
Who know that without darkness
Nothing comes to birth
As without light
