Normal - Etta M. Veal, 80, of Normal, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Monday January 21, 2019 at her residence.
Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at City of Refuge Ministries with Pastor William Bennett officiating and Pastor Toby Carlos eulogizing. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till the time of service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Etta was born May 18, 1938 in Cleveland, Mississippi, a daughter to Andrew and Rosetta (Cooperwood) Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sol Veal.
Surviving are her children, Dyvonne Gunn of KY, Patricia Thompson of Bloomington, Oscar Thompson of Bloomington, Cynthia (Anthony) Williams of Normal, and Kimberly Veal of Bloomington; grandchildren, Lashawn Thompson, Latoya Thompson, Charles (Carmelita) Shively, Jr., Chranda Shively, Lisa Thompson, Reginald Shively, Laverne Thompson, Melody (Brandon) Motley, Latricia Thompson, Jazzman (Rachel) Thompson, Marcus Thompson, Tabyrus Thompson, and Nikaela Thompson; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; six sisters, Georgia Haywood, Viola Davis, Teola Briggs, Evelyn (Mitchell) Mitchell, Mildred Seals, Myranne (Melvin) Cooper; two brothers, Jeremiah Walker and Maurice Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and four brothers.
Etta was an advocate for her community.
She will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.
