Bloomington - Gary Michael Rapp, 71, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his home.
His memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at First Christian Church in Bloomington with Rev. Jim Warren and Rev. Kelley Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Military Rites will be accorded by Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Cremation rites have been accorded. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Bloomington or Bloomington-Normal Cursillo Center.
Gary was born on January 7, 1945 in Rochelle, Illinois, a son to Daniel and Edna Rittmeyer Rapp. He married the love of his life, Connie K. Finley on February 24, 1968 in Bloomington. Surviving is his wife, Connie K. Rapp of Bloomington; a son, Erik (Shannon) Rapp of Normal, IL, and a daughter, Rhonda Rapp of Miami, FL; two grandchildren, Shelby and Harper Rapp; Brother, Dennis (Sue) Rapp of Loves Park, IL; sister, Bobbi Montgomery of Woodland Hills, CA ; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends, including his childhood best friend, Ken (Becky) Greene.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Judy, Nancy and Doris.
Gary graduated from Durand High School in 1963. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois State University in Normal and University of Wisconsin in Platteville, Wisconsin.
He proudly served in the United States Army for two years in states and Germany. When he returned home, he sold insurance. Later, Gary joined Coldwell Banker in Bloomington, where he was a Realtor for over 40 years.
Gary's greatest joy in life was helping others. He was an active member in First Christian Church of Bloomington and Cursillo. His passion was prison ministry.
The family would like to thank Advocate BroMenn Hospice and Tate Gaines for their wonderful care.
Gary was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and he will be truly missed.
