Gudrun Ashley

Gudrun Anna Ashley, age 74, passed on December 3, 2021.  She was born May 25, 1947, in Vollinghausen, Germany to Grete Limant Senger and Alfred Wolfgang Senger. Grete and Alfred greeted twin girls Gudrun and Ute.  Gudrun's family immigrated to the United States of America and landed on her ninth birthday, May 25, 1956.  She was very proud to become a Nationalized U.S. Citizen in 1971.

Gudrun is survived by her sisters Brigitte (Richard) Kaeske, Deerfield, Illinois, Karin (Al) Schwerman, Lago Vista, Texas, and Ute Cunnane, Pensacola, Florida and her brother John Senger, Sedona, Arizona. Her 4 daughters Tina Funk, Normal, Illinois, Angela Funk-Wall (David), Gulfport, Mississippi, Carrie Funk, Bloomington, Illinois, Ronda Almond (William), Oskaloosa, Iowa and one son, Matthew Streenz (Shelly), Downs, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Renate Wood and her husband Larry Ashley.

Gudrun was blessed with seven grandchildren, Anna Schappaugh, Alek Wall, Alexis Streenz, Madison Streenz, Allyson Almond, Noah Streenz and Kade Almond.  She had one great-grandson, Beckham Schappaugh.

Gudrun loved to work in her garden and yard, fishing, playing card games and everything about Christmas.  As a young mother, she sewed matching outfits for her girls and loved to cook for her son.  Many weekends the family would get together and play card games and eat some of her favorite recipes.  She and her family took many vacations, and attended family reunions together.  Gudrun was the first of her siblings to host Senger Family Reunions. The reunions traveled from Bloomington IL., Gurnee IL, Sedona AZ., Lago Vista TX., Union Bay Canada and San Diego, CA.  She was a firm believer in working hard and being self reliant.  She took pride in exercising   her freedom to vote. For many years she was a volunteer with her local AA Chapter and she assisted with the start of Marc First. Most of Gudrun's career was at Eureka Williams, GTX  Logistics in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois.

She was a true believer of our Lord, Jesus Christ and took pleasure in listening to Gospel music and loved attending church.

Gudrun is Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly trod the valley of the shade?

Oh! but Jesus' love illuminated every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me in that way so hard to tread;

And with Jesus' arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still.

Try to look beyond earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand;

Do it now, while life remaineth, You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home;

Oh, the rapture of that meeting,

Do it now. While life remaineth.  You shallrest in Jesus' land.

Oh the rapture of that meeting,

Oh, the joy to see you come!
