Normal - Herman C. "Whitey" Leischner, 76, of Normal, passed away at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his residence.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal with Pastor Jonathan Huehn officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Entombment will be in East Lawn Mausoleum in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Normal.
Whitey was born on October 18, 1940 in Bloomington, Illinois, a son to Aaron B. And Helen Tallon Leischner. He married Bonnie J. Gore on February 14, 1976 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, Illinois.
Surviving is his wife, Bonnie of Normal; children, Lonna (Ionel) Jitaru of Tuscon, AZ, Lainie (Jon) Church of Chandler, AZ, Aaron Leischner of Bloomington, Ryan (Amy) Leischner of Inverness and Todd (Kandance) Gore of Port Barrington; sisters, Erma Taylor of Sarasota, FL and Esther (Bennie) Brown of Downs; and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Whitey was born and raised in Bloomington. He was employed for 45 years as a pipefitter out of Bloomington Local 99 where he retired. He worked at Bridgestone Firestone in Normal and later worked for American Sun Control in Missouri.
He enjoyed NASCAR races as well as the Indy 500 race. Whitey was an avid Pinochle player, enjoyed boating and spending time at the family lake home in Lake of the Ozarks. He also loved family visits in Arizona, he very much cherished his family.
His wife, Bonnie wishes to thank OSF Hospice, especially his care givers, Abbi Blanco and Katie Hopkins.
