Normal - Jean Ann Bates, 90, of Normal, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 Meadows Mennonite Home in Meadows, Illinois.
A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Normal with Pastors Randy Reese and Debbie Reese officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Entombment will be in Park Hill Mausoleum in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Normal.
Jean Ann was born on March 22, 1926 in Normal, the daughter of Harvey and Beulah Wilson Otto. She married Roy William Barclay on July 7, 1946 in Normal. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1976. She then married Paul Bates on June 25, 1977 in Normal, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 8, 2011.
Surviving is her son, Ray (Charlotte) Barclay of Riverton and daughter, Debby (Steve) Paullin of Carlock; three step-children, Glen (Cathy) Bates of Berwyn, Barb Busick of Normal and Judy (Mark) Hendrickson of Champaign; five grandchildren, Tami Jackson, Scott Shriver, Heather Plattner, Meredith Brown and Eric Paullin; seven step-grandchildren, Leslie Smith, Megan Fishel, Paul Busick, Kyle Busick, Sam Busick, Tracy Jackson and Kara Hendrickson; twelve great grandchildren and eighteen step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Jean Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a great granddaughter, Zoe Paullin.
Jean Ann graduated from University High School in 1944. She worked with her husband Paul in his business Bates Commodities.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Normal, As You Like It Club, Garfield Club and Antique Club.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
