Bloomington - Joe L. Mildred, 88, of Bloomington, Illinois, formerly of Fairbury, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019. He was a resident of Westminster Village Retirement Center in Bloomington.
His Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington with Pastor Kathy Stoner-Lasala officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to his service at the church on Friday. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Fairbury shortly following the Celebration of Life Service.
Joe was born on March 22, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, a son to Joseph F. and Adele Fitzgerald Mildred. He married Flora L. Mildred on August 14, 1960 in Centralia, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1982. He married Joyce I. Boeckmann on July 26, 1986 in Bloomington.
Surviving is his wife of 33 years, Joyce I. Mildred of Bloomington; daughter, Ann (Michel) Gontard of Paris, France; daughter-in-law, Muriel Phillips of Chattanooga, Tennessee; step daughter, Julie (Patrick) Kelly of LaGrange IL; step son, Eric Boeckmann (Lizabeth) of LaGrange IL; step daughter, Beth (Todd) McLawhorn of Western Springs IL; grandchildren, Nicolas Gontard and Sophie Gontard, both of Paris, France, Jeffrey (Emily) Kelly of Ft Collins, CO; Katelyn (Kristopher) Williams of Chicago; Pierce McLawhorn, Will McLawhorn, Harry McLawhorn and Charlie McLawhorn all of Western Springs IL; Max and Hannah Boeckmann of LaGrange; great granddaughter, Grace Ellen Kelly.
He was preceded in death by Flora L. Mildred; son, Steven L. Mildred; and son-in-law, Todd L McLawhorn.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army from August 1954 - July 1956. His professional career was in education, serving as an administrator, junior high school principal, and assistant high school principal in Fairbury, Illinois.
He was a member of 2nd Presbyterian Church, Lakeside County Club, Young Men's Club and Illinois Principals Association.
Joe enjoyed time with his family, golf and watching his beloved St Louis Cardinals win many championships.
Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
