Bloomington - John M. Rhoda, 73, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:36 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his residence.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastor Terry Strom officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday, both at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or OSF Eastern Region Hospice.
John was born on May 19, 1944 in Fairbury, Illinois, a son to Edwin and Bernice Phillips Rhoda. He married Sharon Stuckemeyer on August 28, 1965 in Chenoa, Illinois.
Surviving is his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Rhoda of Bloomington; daughters, Michelle (Trent) Davis of Downs and Stephanie (David) Gardner of Bahrain; three granddaughters, Michaela Davis, Rachel Davis and Fiona Gardner; brothers, Jim (Ann) Rhoda of Ohio and David (Joy) Rhoda of Wisconsin; sisters, Jeanine Perez of Mexico, Sue Vincent of Illinois and Martha (Robert) Lichter of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was a Bloomington Police officer for over 23 years. He was a former city council member serving one term, he was associated with Mobile Training Unit 8, he volunteered with McLean County Sportsmen's Association and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in Wisconsin fishing with his granddaughters. John was shown grace by our Father, watched over by the Shepard, and loved by his family and friends.
