Bloomington - Jose Antonio ‘Tony' Ramirez, 82, of Bloomington passed away at 8:50 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. Greg Nelson officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday followed by visitation from 5-7:00 p.m. at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington and one hour prior to mass at the church on Friday.
Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
Tony was born on June 19, 1936 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, a son to Maria Ramirez. He married Frances J. Berst Bernal. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2018.
Surviving are his children, Tony J. (Lisa) Ramirez, Jr. of Bloomington, Angela (Rudy) Rech of Lexington, Rick (Rose) Ramirez of Bloomington, Rudy L. (Laura) Ramirez of Normal and grandchildren, Samantha Rech, Jennifer Ramirez, Tim Ramirez, Tiffany Ramirez, Scott Ramirez and Luci Ramirez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter and several brothers and sisters.
Tony worked for Illinois State University beginning in 1962 as a baker and also worked at Mister Donut in Bloomington.
He raised his family in Bloomington-Normal and was an avid Chicago Cub fan. He enjoyed his fishing trips with his sons and grandsons. Tony enjoyed watching sports, pro wrestling, western shows and collecting antiques.
Tony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
