Bloomington - Joseph W. ‘ Joe' Barth, 77, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:09 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

His Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington with Rev. Monsignor Douglas Hennessey officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Joe donated his body for medical science research.

Memorials may be made to Bloomington Normal Cursillo or St. Vincent de Paul Society
or Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Joe was born on August 15, 1940 in Winfield, Illinois, a son to John D. Sr. and Dorothy Baum Barth. He married Sandra Johnson on June 14, 1969 in Bloomington.

Surviving is his wife, Sandra Barth of Bloomington; children, Joseph G. ‘Jay' (Tara) Barth of Bloomington, Jeff D. Barth of Bloomington and Judy E. (Michael) Riggs of Le Roy; grandchildren, Emma, Jill, Krista and Alex Barth and Jackson Riggs; brothers, Charles Barth of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, Michael (Alice) Barth of Bloomington, William (Lynn) Barth of Havana; sister, Elizabeth ‘Betty' Pettit of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and sister in-law, Marcia Baum of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John D. Barth, Jr. and Paul Barth; sister, Barbara Crabtree, infant sister, Hannah Barth; brother in-law, Wes Pettit and sister in-law, Mary Jane Barth.

Joe grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Trinity High School in 1958. He graduated from Illinois State University and then began teaching at Trinity High School and later Central Catholic High School where he also coached for over 19 years. He proudly served in the National Guard from June 13, 1963 to June 12, 1969.

He was a professional photographer and photographed weddings and sports teams. Joe was a IHSA and ASA umpire for softball.

Joe was a Muscular Dystrophy Association volunteer and pledge center coordinator. He was active in the Cursillo Community and an active member of the Bloomington Moose Lodge where he held several offices including Governor. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Joe was a loving father and grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
