East Peoria - Kim Yong Soon, 91, of East Peoria, formerly of Normal, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Riverview Retirement Center in East Peoria, Illinois.
A memorial service for Kim will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Normal with Pastor Kim Burke officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
A private family inurnment will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Preachers Aide Society.
Kim was born on January 22, 1926 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, a son of Fook Hong and Gut Swee Khong Wong. He married Marjorie E. Hendershot on August 10, 1951 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie E. Soon of East Peoria; two sons, James Han Ling (Colleen) of Lacon and John Wong Lee (Stephanie) of Heyworth; three grandchildren, Melinda (Kyle) Elizabeth Jordine, John Christopher Soon and Benjamin (Sierra)James Soon; two step grandchildren, Sarah Duncan and Stephen (Anna) Duncan and one great grandchild, Scarlet Elizabeth Jordine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kim graduated from Garrett Evangelical Seminary and faithfully served in the ministry for over 30 years. He was a Methodist Clergyman in Kansas City, MO, Evanston, Collison, Hebron, Taylor Ridge, Dallas City, Burnside, Broadlands, Longview, Beason, Chestnut, Farmington, and Casey. Kim and Marjorie served as missionaries to the Chinese in South Korea from 1964-1969.He was also the Pontiac District Superintendent for 6 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of United Methodist Church Annual Conference and Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference.
Kim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he lived his life serving others and will be greatly missed.
