LaVon Schroeder

Normal - LaVon Schroeder, 89, of Normal, passed away at 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Normal.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal with Pastors Jonathan Huehn and Timothy Fitzner officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. till the time of the service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Interment will be at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Guild at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal or to their Music Department.

LaVon was born on August 26, 1929 in Urbana, IL. She was raised by her parents Ed and Stella Roy Ponewash. She married Kenneth K. Schroeder on September 23, 1951 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1984.

Surviving are her children, Doug (Connie) Schroeder of Bloomington, Kendy Schroeder of Normal, Dan (Ann) Schroeder of Eau Claire, WI, and Tom (Mary) Schroeder of New Ulm, MN; grandchildren, Greg (Meg) Schroeder, Erik (Jen) Schroeder, Megan Schroeder, Olivia Schroeder, Lauren Schroeder, Kate Schroeder and Andrew Schroeder; four great grandchildren; brother, Dave (Louise) Ponewash of Whitney, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Jim Ponewash.

LaVon attended Millikin University, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority.

As an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, she participated in the church's choir and women's groups. She also volunteered her time at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington. While working in the gift shop, she would often purchase many gifts for her family.

Her favorite hobbies included knitting, gardening, sewing and quilting, baking, cooking and bowling. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, and she was known for her large Santa collection.

LaVon's family wishes to thank the staff at Sugar Creek for their many years of kindness and care. They also would like to thank VITAS Healthcare for their compassion.
