Towanda - Maria L. Hougas, 64, of Towanda passed away at 9:54 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 in auditorium at Calvary Baptist Church in Normal. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Maria was born on October 6, 1952 in Bloomington, Illinois, a daughter of Louis and Helene Krusnoski Prangl. She married Thomas Hougas on August 26, 1972 in Bloomington.

Surviving is her husband, Thomas Hougas of Towanda; a son, Robert (Alicia) Hougas of Normal; three daughters, Kerry (Jim) Mounce of El Paso, Kathryn (Steve) Castro of Arlington, WA and Kristie Hougas of Aurora; eight grandchildren and a sister, Anita (Steve) Moncelle of Lake Elsinore, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters and one grandson.

Maria was employed for many years in food service at Illinois State University.

The family would like to thank the nurses, April, Natille, Rebekah and Kelly and doctors at OSF Hospital and the nurses and doctors, especially Nurse Melissa at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home Care for special care.

Maria loved watching her children and grandchildren grow, she dedicated her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed.
