Marie Riegel

Clinton - Marie Frances Lugering Riegel, 99, of Clinton, entered into eternal life on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Liberty Village in Clinton.

Marie was born on October 28, 1920 in Palmyra, Missouri, a daughter of Henry A. and Catherine Vogelpohl Lugering. She married Roy (Bubby) W. Riegel, Jr. on November 4, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 2013 after 73 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, three sons, Melvin R. (Linda Sue) Riegel of Clinton, Gary J. (Trudi) Riegel of Clinton, and Michael B. (Susan) Riegel of Granite Bay, California, and three daughters, Patricia D. (Lance) Reece of Clinton, Sandra K. (Carol) Riegel of Fairfield, Iowa, and Debra M. (Craig) Patrick of Bloomington; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, two sisters, and two brothers.

Marie, a woman of strong faith, was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Clinton. Throughout her many years, she sang in the choir and loved arranging flowers to decorate the church.

She had a contagious smile and a hearty laugh, uplifting those around her. She was a decorator for every holiday, especially Christmas, and loved her family with all her heart. Her home was a hub for the chaos of large family life. Her favorite pastime was trying to beat Bubby at croquet and other games, and dancing with Dad to the song, Kansas City.

On behalf of her children, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the loving notes we have received. We will deeply miss her and know she is laughing and smiling on us now.
