Marietta Baptiste, 87, of Bloomington, transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, October 2, 2017.
Her Celebration Of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bloomington with Rev. Frank L. McSwain, Sr., officiating
She was born May 22, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of Joseph and Mildred Baptiste. The Baptiste family relocated to Bloomington IL during her years of early education. She graduated from the Bloomington School District and went on to become a licensed beautician.
Marietta accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She lived a Christian life dedicated to the service of the Lord and was a faithful member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church where she served in various capacities. She was devoted to her role in Christian Education as a teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School for many years. She also served on the Usher Board at Mount Pisgah where she knew everyone's name. Her latter membership was at Loving Missionary Baptist Church, Bloomington.
Marietta was respectfully known throughout the community as "Tontie". She was an independent business owner and ran a home daycare that helped raise generations of children. "Tontie's Kids" knew how to read before they entered kindergarten. All her children received intellectual and spiritual education. Her legacy will always be the love she had for her kids at the daycare and at church.
Tontie leaves to cherish her memories two nieces, Toni Baptiste of Bloomington and Kim Manns of Bloomington; two nephews, Chris Argiannis of Vancouver, Washington and Joey Baptiste of Bloomington; one brother, Joseph Baptiste, Jr., (Beulah) of New Orleans, LA; and a host of cousins, great nieces, great nephews and of course, Tontie's Kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Gladiola Argiannis.
