Marty was born on April 21, 1929 in Bloomington, a son of Martin H. and Margaret Walsh Wieland. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1947 and earned his dental degree from St. Louis University in 1953. Marty proudly served as a dentist in the United States Navy on the USS Boxer from 1953-1955. After completing his military service, he returned to Bloomington and married Margaret Ann Murray on June 29, 1957 at Holy Trinity Church. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1991.

Marty practiced dentistry in Bloomington for 46 years. He was a long-time member of the American Dental Association, the McLean County Dental Society, the Young Men's Club and served as the first president of Holy Trinity Parish Council. He avidly followed the Chicago Cubs, and especially enjoyed their 2016 season. He loved golf and was proud of his hole-in-one at the age of 72!

Marty retired to Florida in 2001 and married Marie Lawenda at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church on August 10, 2002 in Sarasota. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, dear cousins Dave Brady and Frank Brady, and life-long friends, Paula Downey Brady, and Roger and Diane Lehman.

Marty was a special person; devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He lived his life with kindness, humility, and integrity; always compassionate to family, friends and his patients.

Our family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at OSF St. Joseph Hospital for their professional and skillful care towards Dad. We are forever grateful for their compassion.

Memorials may be directed to Central Catholic High School or St. Vincent DePaul Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
