Medre "Mildred" Walker Seals, 63, of Normal, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at her residence.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at City of Refuge Ministries in Bloomington with Pastor William Bennett officiating and Suffragan Bishop Edward T. McGhee eulogizing. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Medre was born on March 18, 1955 in Chicago; a daughter to Andrew and Rosetta Cooperwood Walker. She was married Jimmy Seals.
Robert and Viola W. Davis raised Medre from 12 to 18 years of age. She attended Eastridge high school in Kankakee, il. She was baptized in the name of Jesus at 15 years old at the House of Prayer church in Kankakee il.
Surviving are her daughters, Delisha Neal - Seals of Normal, Il and Medra (Phillip) Jones of Champaignm Il. She has 5 grandchildren, Christian Neal, Avonni Brown, Davion Prude, Bryan Thornton, Jr., and Phillip Jones, Jr,; 5 sisters, Georgia Haywood, Viola Davis, Teola Briggs, Evelyn (Joseph) Mitchell, Myranne (Melvin) Cooper; 2 brothers, Jeremiah and Maurice Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sarah Portis and Etta Veal, and four brothers, Andrew Walker, Jr., Eddie Walker, Ricky Walker, and Walter Walker, Sr.
Medre received a bachelor's degree in social work from Illinois State University. She was employed as a social worker for many years, working at the Baby Fold, Bloomington Township, and finally the Housing Authority of Champaign County. She retired in 2017.
She attended Alpha & Omega Church in Bloomington, Monument of Faith Church in Chicago, and Lilly Church in Mackinaw.
Medre was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
