Bloomington - Melvin F. Bonke, 88, of Bloomington passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Martin Health Center in Bloomington.
His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastor Thomas Wirsing and Pastor Terry Strom officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church.
Interment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church Hearts Ablaze or Trinity Lutheran School. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Melvin was born on August 19, 1930 in Bloomington, Illinois, a son to Walter E. and Alvina Roth Bonke.
Surviving is his sister, Carol R. (Wayne) Springer of Bloomington and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Beverly Laskowski and special friend, Marge Horsley.
Melvin was a graduate of Bloomington High School, class of 1948. He began working in his uncle's printing business and entered the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he returned to Bloomington and his career in the printing business.
He enjoyed gardening, was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching Redbird basketball.
Melvin was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington.
Melvin was a special and generous man and family member who will be missed by all who knew him.
