Bloomington - Michael "Mighty Mike" Cavanaugh, 62, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3:55 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
His Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at North Bridge Baptist Church in Normal with Pastor Michael Sloan officiating. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Mike was born on October 2, 1954 in Bloomington, a son to Norman and Lois Cavanaugh, they precede him in death.
Surviving is his brother, Ed Moore of Bloomington and Cousins, Barry (Debbie) Carney of Bloomington, Kea Carney of Longbeach California, Pam (Earl) Reynar of Bloomington, Kenny Carney of Florida and Mark Hitzner of Normal; a brother, Wes (Teresa) Tamischke and a stepsister, Kathi (Jordan) Vandermeer.
Mike was born and raised in Bloomington and is a graduate of Bloomington High School Class of 1973. He worked for Four Seasons Association for 32 years and was known and loved by all he knew through the health club. Mike was a well known athlete in the Special Olympics, winning numerous medals and participating in numerous events, including The 2011 World Games in Greece.
He was a well known music enthusiast and attended many local music events, concerts, and outdoor festivals where he could always be seen dancing, he loved to dance.
Mike was kind and caring to all, he never met a stranger. He loved to talk and share stories reminding us all, what a "special person" he was. He will be dearly missed.
