Michael Smith

Bloomington - Michael A. Smith, 59, of Bloomington passed away at 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

His Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Fr. Joe Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Military Rites will be accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Michael was born on March 16, 1958 in Natchez, Mississippi, a son to Leroy and Frances Rollins
Smith. He married Carolina Maclin on April 6, 1991 in Bloomington. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2013.

Surviving are his children, Dustin Smith of Iowa City, IA and Sydney Smith of Bloomington; father, Leroy Smith, Sr.; stepfather, Oscar Witherspoon of Bloomington; siblings, Leroy Smith, Jr., Leah Smith, Zed Smith and Joanne Johnson, all of Louisiana, Roy Smith of Pennsylvania and Stephanie Smith of Texas; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Michael proudly served in the United States Army.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Michael enjoyed baking and cooking.

Michael was a loving husband, father and brother, his family was the center of his world.
