Normal - Phillip R. Fleetwood, 76, of Normal, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.
His memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Danvers with Rev. Kathy Mitchell officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Danvers or the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
Phillip was born on December 3, 1939 in Sycamore, Illinois, a son to Edgar and Margaret Read Fleetwood. He married Marion North on June 23, 1962 in Lockport, Illinois.
Surviving is his wife, Marion Fleetwood of Normal; two sons, Paul (Maureen) Fleetwood and Marc Fleetwood, both of Chicago; two daughters, Tracy Fleetwood of Normal and Amy (Chad) Parkinson of Dunfermline, IL; one granddaughter, Sara Fleetwood; two step-grandchildren, Jarred and Olivia Parkinson; one brother, Robert Fleetwood of Dekalb. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Fleetwood; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Phillip was employed as a teacher for District 87 for 37 years, retiring in 1999. He worked at State Farm Day Camp for 20 years as a camp counselor and crafts director.
He was an accompanist for the singing Y'ers Boys' Choir. Phillip toured with the choir in Japan in 1977. Phillip was an organist in Bloomington-Normal churches for over 50 years, notably First United Methodist Church in Normal, St. Luke Union Church in Bloomington, University Christian Church in Normal and First Presbyterian Church of Danvers.
Phillip was a volunteer for Mennonite Hospice and a previous member of the Bloomington-Normal Asahikawa Sister City Committee. He was also a member of National Education Association, Illinois Education Association and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
