Normal - Phyllis Jean Siegworth, 88, of Normal, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born August 16, 1929, in Secor, the only child of Glenn and Jessie (Treece) Lucas. She married Loren E. Siegworth on June 27, 1948, in Carlock. Surviving are one son, Timothy (Mary Horgan) Siegworth, El Paso; one daughter, Vicki (Jeffrey Piona) Siegworth, Normal; one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Siegworth; and one great-granddaughter, Brinley Loren, lovingly named after her great-grandfather.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Phyllis attended Eureka High School for three years and graduated from Carlock High School in 1947. During a visit to her dentist while in her second year of high school in Eureka, Phyllis was offered a job as the dentist's live-in housekeeper/childcare provider. Much to her parents' surprise, she accepted the job and was quite proud to be (possibly) the only sophomore girl in town to have her own checking account! After graduation, she worked for State Farm Insurance Co. In December of 1947, after much cajoling by her cousin June, Phyllis agreed to go on a blind double date and met the love of her life, Loren. After raising her children, she was a secretary at Victory Hall Boys Home in Normal and was later employed at the Town of Normal Water Department, retiring in 1991.
During their retirement, Phyllis and Loren traveled extensively, both abroad and stateside, and also enjoyed dancing at various fraternal organizations throughout the Midwest. Phyllis was devoted to her husband and family, was a skilled homemaker, diligent employee and friend to many. For years she regularly attended her children's and granddaughter's sporting and musical activities. More recently, she was thrilled when friends or her "grand-dogs" came for a visit. Phyllis' sense of humor and genuine love for people will be missed. Her family would like to express their gratitude to all her special neighbors who provided friendship, care, and companionship.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, at Centennial Chapel Cemetery, Secor. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting with the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Mooseheart or Alzheimer's Association.
