Bloomington - R. Jean Barrington, 77, of Normal, formerly of Carbondale, passed away at 9:01 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington with Pastor Thomas Wirsing officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation.
Jean was born January 18, 1940 in Lincoln, Illinois, a daughter to Earl and Margaret Liston Thompson.
Surviving are her three daughters, Rose (Richard) Buck of Normal, Cindy (K.W.) Yontz of Paris, IL, and Marci (Ed) Kristof of Oak Lawn, IL; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Mickey Thompson.
Jean was employed by the Ma Bell Phone Company, which later became the General Telephone & Electric Corporation, where she was the first woman lineman in Southern Illinois. She was employed with GTE for 28 years, retiring in 1992. Later Jean was employed as a supervisor at Afni.
She was a member of the McLean County Association for Home and Community Education, the Red Hat Society, and the Children's Health Care Council of McLean County. Jean also volunteered at OSF St. Joseph's Medical Center.
