Richard E Roberts

Richard Elmer Roberts, 72, of Minonk IL formerly of Normal IL, passed away on Tuesday March 14, 2023 at Heritage Health in Minonk.  He passed away from Parkinson’s disease with complications from Covid. 

Richard was born on November 1, 1950 in Lancaster, Wisconsin a son of Arthur and Gwen (Wager) Roberts.  Richard is survived by his sister Karen (Duncan) Everhart of Alum Bank, PA, and nieces and nephews, Colin Roberts, Kristin Roberts, Kyle Roberts, Kelty Roberts, and Lindsey Everhart.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark.

Richard was proud of his educational degrees from Illinois State University, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education and Master of Science in Special Education.  He lived in Colorado for several years, helping individuals with disabilities obtain employment and life skills.  He returned to Illinois and worked in the Commercial Cleaning industry for many years.  After providing excellent care to his father, who also had Parkinson’s disease, he worked as a Home Health Aide with YWCA and Help at Home, until he retired at age 69.  Despite his bi-polar diagnosis, his work ethic was unparalleled. 

Richard enjoyed bowling and billiards in his younger years.  He played the piano and enjoyed music of many genres.  Richard loved animals, both his own pets, as well as supporting many animal conservation groups.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 24^th at 11:00 am at Calvary United Methodist Church in Normal.  Memorial contributions in Richard’s honor can be left to the Humane Society of Central Illinois, 423 Kays Dr., Normal IL 61761.
