Bloomington - Ronald D. "Ron" Zimmerman, 83, of Bloomington, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Heritage Health Care in Normal.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Rev. Stephanie Soon officiating. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the Bloomington Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the memorial home.
Inurnment will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to Advocate Hospice or the National Kidney Foundation.
Ron was born on June 23, 1933 in Fairbury, Illinois, a son to Joseph and Hermina Miller Zimmerman. He married Barbara I. Freeman on June 28, 1958 in New Lenox, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Roy Zimmerman of Chicago and Todd Zimmerman of Bourbonnais; three granddaughters, Jessica, Heather and Taylor Zimmerman; and two great grandsons, Miles and Ethan Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ralph, Jene, Johnny, Harold and Lloyd; and two sisters, Pauline and Helen.
Ron was a lifelong volunteer, involved with many community activities including Bloomington-Normal Athletics and directed intercity football and basketball games program sales. He was a lifelong member of the Bloomington High School Boosters Club. Ron was also a life member of the Bloomington Elk's Lodge where he chaired many activities including the chili cook off, annual pancakes and sausage breakfast's and numerous other social activities.
He proudly served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran.
Ron owned and operated Ron's Barber Shop in Bloomington for over 40 years. Ron and his wife received a #1 Fan award for attending their grandchildren sporting events at Ridgeview High School.
He did not know a stranger, and helped anyone in need. Ron was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
