Urbana- Ruth A. Eckstein, 80, of Urbana, formerly of Normal, passed away at 7:55 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington with Pastor Larry Gaylord officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
Ruth was born on November 3, 1935 in El Paso, IL, a daughter to Harry and Elisa Woltzen Peters. She married Billy Eckstein on November 19, 1960.
Surviving are her daughters, Kay (Jack) Butcher of Urbana and Melinda Thomas of Heyworth; grandchildren, Amber McWhorter of Bloomington, Kyle (Hannah) Kessinger of El Paso, Brandon (Tara) Kessinger of Farmer City; great grandchildren, Dylan Mcwhorter and Weston Kessinger; sister, Delores Heiken of Rockford; Sister-in-law, Patsy Arnold of Fullerton, CA, Brother-in-law, Roger Eckstein, of Seymour, IN, Sister-in-law Dewana Eckstein (Dawn Tutt) of Kankakee and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; daughter, Tamera Eckstein; grandson, Chris McWhorter; four sisters and one brother.
Ruth retired from Original Smith Printing after being employed in the bindery department for many years. She was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Deaf Church and a member of the Deaf Women's Ministry.
