Sarah Nichols

Sarah Lois Nichols of Normal, IL, passed away peacefully on November 19th, 2021, at Carle BroMenn Hospital, after a long battle with Huntington's.
Sarah was born October 25,1967, to Avon and Audrey Nichols in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. After graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1986, she studied Music Education at the University of Iowa, where she played the French Horn in the "Take Five" Quintet. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Music Business at the University of Miami.
Sarah's career was varied, but always kept music in her life. Early on she had the excitement of performing at Disney World, before moving on to Yamaha Music, where she worked in marketing. When she moved to Normal, she taught Music Appreciation at Heartland Community College.
During her life Sarah enjoyed ice-skating, cooking, reading, and baking Christmas cookies.  She always had a couple of pets running around her house, which brought her much comfort and happiness. Through everything, she kept her two sons at the center of her life, and did everything she could to bring them joy and peace.
Sarah was a faithful member of Hopedale Mennonite Church and, after the family moved to Normal, at the Mennonite Church of Normal, where she loved singing in the choir, and helping her sons set up eye-catching booths with ingenious activities for the church's annual Alternative Gifts Christmas Fair.
In the final years of Sarah's life, she faced the ever-growing challenges of her disease with bravery and integrity.  She remained immensely strong and independent right through her final days. Her courage was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she will forever be remembered for it.
Sarah was predeceased by her mother, Audrey, her father, Avon, her sister Sue and her brother Mike.  She is survived by her brother Tom and her sons Taylor and Joe, and the many friends who had the pleasure of having Sarah in their lives.
Gifts in Sarah's memory may be sent to the Mennonite Church of Normal, for music for the youth and adult choirs.
The Memorial Service for Sarah will be held at the Mennonite Church of Normal on Sunday, December 5, at 1:30 p.m.
