Willie E. "Bill" Morton, 81, of Normal, passed away at 3:05 AM on May 21, 2017 at McLean Country Nursing Home in Normal.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a His graveside service will be on June 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Willie was born on October 22, 1935 in Bellington, West Virginia, to Maynard and Ruth Broughman Morton. He married Vickie Wilson, she preceded him in death in 2008.
Surviving are his son David (Kendra) Morton of Stanford; daughter Debra (Ron) DeMont of Normal; Step-children, Heather (Michael) Heil of Bloomington, Todd (Sue) Wilson of Bloomington; and many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Willie was a self-described "West Virginia Redneck" who loved beer, women, and cats, in that order. A gifted mechanic and body man, he was self-taught and could fix anything mechanical. He wrecked many a car and walked away from a plane crash that totaled the plane with just a scratch on his head, while trying to earn his pilot's license. Willie had many friends and loved to tell stories about his many escapades.
He was a member of Minier Christian Church where he wisely gave himself to the Lord and was baptized in the last year of his life.
The family would like to thank the staff at McLean Country Nursing Home for all the kindness and care they gave Willie, especially Julie and Ginny in Social Services. We would also like to greatly thank Darrel Brandon, for bringing Willie to the Lord and baptizing him. See you again soon, dad!
