Janet Marie Peterson

August 4, 1943 ~ November 19, 2021 (age 78)

Obituary

Janet Marie (Hoesch) Peterson was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her family on Friday, November 19 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal after a brief illness.  She was born August 4, 1943 to Clifford and Jane (Wood) Hoesch in Salt Lake City, UT. Her mansion in the Father's House was reserved for her on September 26, 1943, when she was adopted by baptism into the family of God at St. John Lutheran Church, Salt Lake City, UT.  She publicly acknowledged and accepted that adoption at her Confirmation at Christ Lutheran Church, Murray, UT.

Janet received her B.S. degree in elementary education from Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE (now Concordia University Nebraska) in 1965. She taught school at St. Paul's Lutheran School, Bonduel, WI, Christ Lutheran School, Murray, UT, Redeemer Lutheran School, Denver, CO, Faith Lutheran School, Denver, CO, and Trinity Lutheran School, St. Charles (Orchard Farm), MO.

She married the love of her life, Rev. Ivan Peterson on February 12, 1972 at Christ Lutheran Church, Murray, UT and followed him in ministry to Russell, KS, Davenport, NE, Orchard Farm, MO, Normal, IL, St Louis, MO and then to Bloomington, IL in retirement.

Janet was passionate and unashamed of sharing her faith and her desire that all people know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior from sin and the Lord their life, desiring that all her loved ones would one day join her in her eternal home in Heaven.    Several years ago when asked what she wished her last words on this earth would be, said, "Examine your heart.  Is Jesus your Way, Truth and Life?  If not, turn to Him - ask for forgiveness and believe in Jesus so that you too will Be There!"

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and numerous relatives on both sides of the family.

She is survived by her husband Ivan of over 49 years; 2 children Andrew (Amanda) Peterson and Amy (Chris) Lunn, Bloomington; 4 Grandchildren, Ross (Carley) and Tyler Peterson, Sarah Anderson, Bloomington and Dalton Lunn, Orlando, FL; and 2 great grandchildren, Skye Anderson and Loki Beliles;  2 sisters Carolyn de las Casas, Taylorville, UT and Barbara (Stan) Ball, Syracuse, UT; one brother, Ray (Cathy) Hoesch, West Jordan, UT; and  a multitude of friends and relatives across the country.

Janet loved a simple life and greatly enjoyed her family.  Over the years she enjoyed gardening (flowers and vegetables), counted cross-stitch, traveling (all 50 states and most of the lower Canadian Provinces).  She fell in love with cruising on the Love Boat (107 days) and was looking forward to the highest loyalty level where you got free laundry, but due to COVID was never realized.  After she was no longer able to garden and do cross-stitch she became an even more avid reader and passed the time doing jigsaw puzzles on her iPad as well as playing Sudoku and other solitaire games.  She was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan.  She loved water aerobics and Thursday morning coffee with Ivan's "harem." Her favorite season of the year was Christmas.  She could listen to Christmas music year round, much to the consternation of some family members.  She would go all out decorating the house and had a collection of musical Hallmark animated snowmen which the grandchildren loved to play (sometimes all at once to the annoyance of the adults).  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
